Course Description

This course is designed to equip church leaders with the knowledge, skills, and awareness needed to minister effectively in diverse cultural contexts. As congregations and communities become increasingly multicultural, church leaders are called to foster inclusivity, understanding, and respect across cultural differences. This class will explore the biblical foundation for cultural competency, practical strategies for engaging with diverse groups, and the importance of humility and empathy in leadership. Participants will learn how to navigate cultural differences, avoid misunderstandings, and create environments where all people feel valued and welcomed. By developing cultural competency, church leaders will be better prepared to reflect Christ’s love and build bridges that strengthen the body of Christ.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Define cultural competency and explain its importance in church leadership and ministry.

• Explore biblical principles that affirm diversity and unity within the body of Christ.

• Recognize personal biases and barriers that may hinder cross-cultural ministry.

• Develop skills to communicate effectively and respectfully across cultural differences.

• Learn strategies for creating inclusive worship, teaching, and community practices.

• Understand the role of empathy, humility, and active listening in building cultural bridges.

• Identify ways to support and empower diverse voices within the church community.

• Create a personal and congregational action plan for growing in cultural competency.
