This course is designed to equip church leaders and volunteers with practical de-escalation skills to handle tense, disruptive, or emotionally charged situations within the church setting. Leaders and volunteers must be prepared to respond with calmness, compassion, and confidence to maintain safety and preserve the spirit of hospitality, should a elevated situation arise. This class provides biblical principles, communication strategies, and practical techniques for recognizing early signs of escalation, and provides tolls useful in reducing tension, and resolving conflicts in a way that reflects Christ’s love and care.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Define de-escalation and explain its importance in church leadership and volunteer roles.
Recognize early warning signs of agitation, conflict, or potential escalation.
Apply verbal and non-verbal communication techniques to reduce tension and promote calm.
Understand the role of empathy, active listening, and respect in de-escalating situations.
Learn strategies for maintaining personal composure and safety during high-stress encounters.
Explore biblical principles of peace, patience, and gentleness in conflict resolution.
