Keeping Your Tank Full: Serving Others from a Place of Strength
Course Description
This course is designed for volunteers, caregivers, and those working with individuals who may be emotionally or spiritually draining. Using the metaphor of a road trip, participants will explore how to keep their “tank” full—spiritually, emotionally, and mentally—so they can serve others with strength, compassion, and resilience. Rooted in the understanding that the body is God’s temple, the course emphasizes the importance of being filled with God’s presence and guidance, ensuring that negative influences do not take root. Through biblical principles, practical strategies, and reflective exercises, participants will learn how to maintain balance, avoid burnout, and serve others from a place of abundance rather than depletion.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Understand the biblical foundation of self-care as stewards of God’s temple.
Recognize the signs of emotional, spiritual, and physical depletion when serving others.
Identify practices that “refuel” the heart, mind, and spirit to remain effective in ministry and service.
Develop strategies to set healthy boundaries while still showing compassion and care.
Apply the road trip metaphor to create a personal “maintenance plan” for ongoing renewal.
Strengthen reliance on God’s Word and prayer as the ultimate source of filling and protection.
Discern how to serve others without allowing negativity, discouragement, or spiritual attack to occupy their “tank.”
Commit to a lifestyle of balance, renewal, and intentional filling in order to serve others to the fullest.
